RIP CHRIS HENRY, TRAGIC EVENT STRIKES BENGALS

DATE:

This original article was written at 12:30am 12/17/2009 before the sad events of just a few hours earlier this morning. Chris Henry has now passed.

A sudden shock! To a Family, a Franchise, and to The NFL. Former West Virginia University, current Cincinnati Bengals', Wide Receiver, Chris Henry, has been critically injured and is clinging to his life in what has been call a 'freak' domestic violence dispute/accident.

It has been reported that there was a domestic dispute between Henry and his Fiancé, one where it is reported to involve her behind the wheel of a moving pickup truck carrying Henry in the bed. Henry reportedly went after his fiancé during the events of the argument, hopped in the bed of the vehicle and was tragically ejected soon thereafter. Henry has sustained serious injuries to his head, and is now in a Charlotte area hospital on life support.  Both families involved have been called to arrive, Henry's arriving late Wednesday evening.

The accident has the police involved, notably, Homicide Detectives, because it was a domestic dispute where the reasoning or cause of his body being ejected has yet to be determined and charges could be filed if there were any motive involved through the events of the domestic dispute on the part of his fiancé. Henry was found alone on the side of the road about a half mile away from where he was staying, planning/preparing for his upcoming wedding. His fiancé had left the scene of the accident.

This comes as a huge shock to the Bengals entire organization. Henry has been through what some call a 'rebuilding' process this season and over the course of the past year-year and a half. I remember catching an episode of Sportscenter earlier this season where quarterback Carson Palmer was interviewed and he was discussing how he calls Chris 'little Randy', and how he felt that if everything turned around for the talented receiver, that he could one day be on the star radar, like Moss.

It has been reported that current Seattle Seahawks, former Bengals (teammate of Henry) WR T.J. Houshmanzadaeh is in shock, as just a little more than a month ago when Henry was put on IR due to the arm injury, 'Housh' told him to keep the faith, and that everything will work out just fine.

This time it will require a little more than keeping the faith. Not only Chris Henry, but all associated with him, the Bengals, his family, friends, etc...need as many prayers as possible answered and for the almighty to watch over him. Henry has had a journey unlike most since being selected in the 2005 draft.  However, this event will be his greatest challenge to date, to overcome. Hopefully he can continue to battle and everyone's prayers will be answered. Henry is too young of a man and too young of a talent to have his life end this early.

Everyone please pray for a recovery for Chris Henry today!
